Thank you to goodreads, the publisher & the author for providing me with this ARC!For me, I think maybe if Pupetta's story was in one whole chapter instead used to launch into different topics would have been better。 So many interesting stories of these women but honestly it makes me kinda just never want to ever go to Italy。 oops。 Thank you to goodreads, the publisher & the author for providing me with this ARC!For me, I think maybe if Pupetta's story was in one whole chapter instead used to launch into different topics would have been better。 So many interesting stories of these women but honestly it makes me kinda just never want to ever go to Italy。 oops。 。。。more

Barbie Latza Nadeau, an American investigative journalist living in Italy for several decades, details the realities of mafia life for women in her well-researched book, THE GODMOTHER。Nadeau’s interviews with mafia women, including the infamous Lady Camorra who murdered her husband’s killer in broad daylight, give the reader insight into not only what roles women play in the Italian mafia, but also the why behind these roles, and what has happened to some women when they challenged the status qu Barbie Latza Nadeau, an American investigative journalist living in Italy for several decades, details the realities of mafia life for women in her well-researched book, THE GODMOTHER。Nadeau’s interviews with mafia women, including the infamous Lady Camorra who murdered her husband’s killer in broad daylight, give the reader insight into not only what roles women play in the Italian mafia, but also the why behind these roles, and what has happened to some women when they challenged the status quo。I had very limited knowledge of the mafia prior to reading this book。 I did not know how pervasive it is in Italian society nor how there have been thousands of mafia-related deaths that weren’t from direct murder。 I wanted to pretend that this was a fiction book as it’s hard to believe the things Nadeau describes actually occurred and are still happening today。 There were a few parts that felt slightly repetitive, but otherwise this is a very well-written book。 She presents the information in an easy to digest format, injecting some of her feelings about the interviews in here and there。 That personalization gave me more of a connection to the book – I wasn’t just reading about women of the mafia – I was experiencing as much as I could of what it’s like to sit down for a conversation with a murderer。 I’d highly recommend THE GODMOTHER for fans of True Crime or anyone interested in learning about the mafia that’s often misrepresented in entertainment media。Thank you to Penguin Books for the ARC。 。。。more

An incredibly fascinating firsthand look into the lives of mob wives。 Barbie Latza Nadeau has done such a fantastic job portraying these women and their stories, you really feel as if you're there talking with them。 I truly enjoyed her writing style, it really made the book for me。 The stories would be great on their own but it takes a special writer to be able to portray them in a way that is entertaining, informational and treats the subject fairly。 Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Pen An incredibly fascinating firsthand look into the lives of mob wives。 Barbie Latza Nadeau has done such a fantastic job portraying these women and their stories, you really feel as if you're there talking with them。 I truly enjoyed her writing style, it really made the book for me。 The stories would be great on their own but it takes a special writer to be able to portray them in a way that is entertaining, informational and treats the subject fairly。 Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Absolutely fascinating! I didn’t know too much about the mafia, let alone a woman’s life within it, and this book really went into。 Huge respect to Barbie Nadeau who went and spoke with many of these women。
